I love foundation!  Here’s some of my favorites from Ilia, Kosas, Alima Pure, RMS and Inika.

ILIA

THE DEWY TINTED SPF  The Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40 is an excellent choice if you don’t want a heavy foundation AND you need your daily spf.  Very lightweight, this tinted spf leaves a dewy look on the skin and a very sheer tint that is great for removing any ruddiness or to even out the skin tone.  I would say if you’re going for a super natural look, go for this!  With 18 shades, there’s a very good chance that you’re going to be finding your perfect shade, too.  And I love how inclusive this brand has always been!  Sign up for their email and get 15% off: shop here.   If they’re sold out of your shade, you can shop here. 

THE EVERYDAY This is my foundation when I need some coverage… Ilia’s True Skin Serum Foundation.  Medium coverage, this luscious foundation smoothes out so well and feels so rich going on the skin.  Completely natural-looking, it’s what liquid foundation lovers only wish for when choosing a new base.  They have increased their range to 18 shades so that everyone can find their color.  This foundation fuses makeup with skincare.  The finish is silky and smooth, without being too dewy or matte.  Some ingredients worth noting?  Aloe leaf, rose hip, jojoba and marula oils calm skin and give it nourishment so the makeup looks great.  And let’s face it…if your skin doesn’t look good, no foundation in the world will be able to make it look flawless.   Get it here. 

Kosas Tinted Face Oil

Please don’t let the name scare you off.  I swear it won’t leave you  looking oily!  This base is truly fabulous and I’m a huge fan of it.  Light, with an incredibly silky texture, the Kosas Tinted Face Oil gives light/medium coverage.  It’s so easy to blend and really leaves the skin looking natural.  I love applying it because it just slips right on the skin.  I have to hand it to them, it’s an excellent formulation and there’s none of that cakey, “She’s wearing foundation” look.  Plus, the ingredients make it really nourishing for the skin.  I would definitely give this a try! I also love that this tint also comes in lots of shades for women of color, which has been an issue since the beginning of time.   Shop here! 

RMS BEAUTY FOUNDATION

It’s new!  I had no idea that Rose Marie Swift was coming out with a foundation.  For years many of us have been using her Un-Coverup concealer as a foundation, so the release of an actual foundation has been really cool.  Okay, so…this foundation can give you both full coverage or medium coverage, depending on how you apply.  Me?  I went out and got myself a eco-friendly beauty sponges made from recycled materials that are cruelty-free (here).  I completely soak the sponge, squeeze it out and apply some of the foundation on the back of my hand with their little metal spatula and then I dab the foundation on my face.   To be honest, I find that I get even better application doing it this way because I’m more mindful of where I’m applying it vs. using a foundation brush.  This foundation is thicker, so using a wet sponge makes the application flawless.  Done right, you’ll have a beautiful finish that really covers and conceals.  It’s non-drying and looks like skin.  Get it by clicking here.  

Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation + Brush

THE POWDERS  Lotsa shades!  There was absolutely NO way I was going to use a mineral powder foundation, I said.  I just associated powders with being drying and not being able to give me enough coverage.  Well, I’m happy to say that I was truly wrong.  This foundation has been my go-to when I’m running out the door, heading to yoga or just doing some errands in the city.  Instead of having to put on a liquid (which seems to be more of a thing) there’s nothing like taking out my big Alima Pure Foundation brush and brushing on my foundation.  I also highly recommend you try their Finishing Powder which helps my makeup stay on (my face usually eats my makeup).  Try this, trust me!  Get it here.

Inika Certified Organic Liquid Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid

THE INCREDIBLE VEGAN UNDERDOG I’ve been wearing organic and vegan Inika Liquid Foundation for a few years now and it will always be a favorite.  With medium coverage (I want to say medium+ because you can definitely layer on more if you need it) this foundation never feels dry or leaves your skin looking like you’re wearing makeup.  I’m sure that’s due to the Hyaluronic Acid that’s added to give skin a nourished base.  This foundation is also skincare with added antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.  I also never have to re-apply this foundation as it really has staying power.  If you’re looking for something a tad lighter, I say definitely try their BB Cream which is another one of my go-tos.  The BB Cream has more of a liquid consistency and is lighter, but is great for evening out the skintone.  This line doesn’t seem to have many choices for women of color, either and hoping that’ll change.  Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested.  DEAL:  Take 10% off with code: GPJ here.
